What Are Your Goals?

Gotta admit, today was a beautiful, sunny, cool September day.
The leaves on the trees are changing to the yellows and burnt oranges that you see in photos.
But it's 33 degrees tonight....enough said.

The best way to describe our Mom at this point is the way that Ray describes her - it's Mom after a glass of wine. (though our mom never drinks alchohol, we imagine she would be this way after one cocktail!) That is a great description. She still loves God, perhaps even more, is as kind, respectful and thoughtful of others - as she will stop in the middle of whatever therapy is going on, and will ask the therapist or us....have you eaten yet? making sure that you're all full and fine -  and she still doesn't answer every question that is asked of her. Now, she doesn't reply because she simply gets distracted and will move on to another subject, leaving us all hanging.... She pauses most always in response to questions and this has caused her to be more intentional. She is slower in all ways of course.

She is getting stronger everyday, as she is walking the length of the entire hallway with her walker and doing most all the work in getting in and out of bed. She practiced shopping in a grocery store, making a list first, then choosing what her selection, using the mock up grocery store downstairs, and practiced strength and balance exercises. Just when she thinks she is going to take a nap, there is always someone interrupting her taking her blood, blood pressure, giving her mess, flushing the thingymajiggy in her arm etc...t

Mom's chewing and prompt swallowing get to improve, so for now, they have changed her food preparation to puree, until she regains an appetite, and wants to actually eat. By dinnertime at 5:00, mom is ready to sleep for the night!

In Reta's one on one time together today, she asked how mom was feeling, as she has not seen her cry once during this. Mom's response..."I accept all things as they are. God has reason for all this to happen." These are the moments and responses that will be etched in our hearts forever. As well as, today, during Speech Therapy, Allison went through all the improvements that Mom has achieved in only 2 weeks and 5 days. She then asked Mom, what are your goals Ramona? Immediately and without hesitation, Mom responded..."My goal is to live the life that God wants me to live!"

It offers us the opportunity to ask ourselves, "What is the goal of my life?"
May your response be one with an eternal purpose. God bless you all!

The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever. Psalm 23
