We just had to post an updated blog for this afternoon because we left this evening feeling so encouraged by Mom's alertness and time spent with her.
This was super cool...at around 3:00 p.m., Uncle Ron (Auntie Diane's husband, who never ages, by the way), sent us an email, encouraging us to speak to Mom in Cantonese. He told us that Mom would appreciate it so say to her: (for those who can't speak it: 'Ya Soo Yee Ho Nea' (Ya Soo = Jesus, Yee Ho = Heal, Nea = Me"). Mind you, she had been sleeping since about 8:00 a.m. in the morning, so I went over and began massaging her and saying it aloud - Ya Soo Yee Ho Nea....by the 5th time, she opened her eyes, and gave me a smile!!! From that moment on, she spent a couple of hours up with us, looking at Ray's million photos of the family, watching the Red Sox on TV, and watching intently Mary Beth (Goobie, Ray's wife) and the Guerin Ohana (Rena's family) as they skyped Mom! Additionally, she briefly listened to Auntie Diane, Uncle Tony and Uncle Pete on the phone and we asked her to squeeze our hands if she understood them, and so she did! Thank you Uncle Ron for your email suggestion which was FABULOUS and thank you Lord!
Many moments this afternoon, she's nodded, sighed, moaned out of frustration, used her left hand to move her blankets away, reached for Ray's IPAD to view photos, and displayed genuine, responsive, facial expressions and "Mom" looks that her kids are all familiar with....
It was such fun!
Mom is healing.
THANK YOU GOD.
love you all.
